Today ...

... is removed from yesterday. Yesterday from last week. This is all good.

I ran out of steam last week. My mother was very very ill last week. I was sent to the tipping point or maybe boiling point by that one department that we all tense up when we are called to one of their meetings ... and I am not speaking about finance. Oh .. and on that matter I was way over budget at the beginning of the week, figured out why and corrected so I was under and then by the end of week invoices rolled in that made me just resign myself to stamping and sending to the accounting department.

But that was then. Saturday I fixed my computer and did some chores, some that I maybe should not have done yet but they needed to happen. I just don't heal as quickly as I used to. I think all of us who age are like that. I watched a couple of thought provoking movies after talking to my mother. She was home alone on Saturday and was still not well but feeling much better. High fevers through the week and she jokingly (but seriously) says that she is told she said things but it was all in her state of delirium.

I turned off work emails for the weekend and missed pretty much all calls. Spent the Sunday on the water and that was a nice break. So I am a little bit rosy today but hey we only live once.

We are here, and it is now. Further than that, all human knowledge is moonshine. ~ H.L. Mencken

This week is more of the same but I took an hour today to listen to Yeol Eum Son who was the 2009 Silver Cliburn International Piano Competition Silver Medalist. I need to do something, although I know not what, for the Lupus Walk this Saturday. I cannot put in any money as with all that has happened this year my money has had to go elsewhere and even though I feel horrible about the fact that I was so motivated at the end of last year life stumbled and I fell with it ... I have to accept this and move on. I can offer my support and that is it.

So when you get all tumbled up in yesterday ... take a time out. Sit on a bench in solitude or with a good friend, a family member or holding hands and resting your head on the shoulder of a loved one. Let that moment of peace take away that tumbling whirling mess and clarity will come. Try it.

Live ... learn ... live some more.

It is not the length of life, but depth of life. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

hmmm

....sigh. It has been one of those days. My beloved called this morning to check on me. She was concerned that I just disappeared last night in chat but I seem to have just faded completely away. She knew I was tired but missed those normal morning ... good morning emails.

Thus I began the day with that and a call from a co worker that was relatively unintelligible but as I know what happened last week for him I had a feeling that today would be a long day at work. It was. Just now getting home.

Thus the best laid plans of the day fell the wayside. Too much sleep left me foggy for the day, I ran out of time to do the list I had for this morning and it will mean that I will be rushed for the remainder of the week, I forgot my gym bag so will have to make up today later on ... deep sigh.

But I have life, I have a wonderful woman who loves me, I have a family who is truly wonderful, there is a job that I go to every day, the weather is turning cooler (though not as cool as in Norwich right now but only 10 degrees warmer), there are lights appearing everywhere and rather than sigh about the day one must look inside and realize what one does have.

May you reflect on your day and find the goodness in your world, let that part the heavy curtains of worry and concern you have to allow light to shine on through and lift your spirits ... smile.

Why One Hour Matters So Much

Gain an Hour, Gain Some Risks

A host of problems and risks arises when people’s sleep cycles are thrown off. When we lose an hour in the spring, drowsiness and stress increase. And even though we get extra snooze time in the autumn, the shift back to standard time creates more dark hours than light, which makes us feel more tired and leads to higher rates of seasonal affective disorder (SAD).

SAD shares many of its symptoms with depression, so even if people aren’t clinically depressed, being affected by the lack of light makes them start to feel that way. Messing in any way with the body’s chronobiological processes (the mechanisms controlling its circadian rhythms) encourages the effect. A 2008 study published in Sleep and Biological Rhythms looked at suicide rates in Australia from 1971 to 2001. The rates tended to increase at the start and end of daylight saving time, which could mean that even small changes can have major emotional consequences for some people.

The end of daylight saving also raises the risk of vehicle-related incidents. A 2003 study conducted jointly at Stanford University and John Hopkins University analyzed over twenty years’ worth of data and found that a large number of accidents occur on Sundays marking the end of daylight saving time. And the danger isn’t just for motorists—a Carnegie Mellon University study in 2007 showed a whopping 186 percent increase in pedestrian fatalities in November after the fall-back to standard time. Because rates lowered in December, researchers suggested it had something to do with people’s getting used to driving and being active in the dark again.
